Carlo Alberto Campolo

Ciao! Word has it you’ve been trying to find me – looks like you made it, and I’m really happy to have you here.

Welcome to my website, a simple online summary of who I am, what I do, and why I do it.

Who am I?

My name is Carlo Alberto, but as we get to know each other better, you can call me Carlo.

As a proud Italian, I’d prefer for you not to mix it up with the Spanish version ‘Carlos’, even though this has happened so many times, I started getting used to it…

I moved to London in 2015 to pursue my studies at the Architectural Association where, after a long and tortuous journey, I achieved my professional qualification in November 2023.

Over the past years, I have had the opportunity and pleasure to work around the world, in both small and big offices, gaining international experience in the US, UK, Italy, and Austria.

Alongside my full-time job, I work as a freelance tutor and designer, helping people realise their ideas, either by teaching them how to do it, or by doing the hard work for them.

What do I do?

An Architect (/ˈɑːkɪtɛkt/) is a person who is qualified to design buildings and to plan and supervise their construction.

This is the definition you get if you ask Google but, in my opinion, there is so much more than that I could probably write an essay about it.

In the UK (and similarly in many other countries), in order to qualify as an Architect, one has to go through 5+ years of university studies, a minimum of 24 months of work experience, and pass several professional exams. Throughout this bittersweet life adventure, we are required to learn and develop countless software and interpersonal skills.

From being able to communicate our ideas clearly, actively listening to feedback, to working on multiple programs at the same time. Resulting in high-quality content such as drawings and visualisations to promote ourselves and the services we offer.

All this, on top of the textbook routine of designing and coordinating the construction of such ideas, which become like pieces of a puzzle put together to shape cities, enabling us to live and enjoy them the way we do.

Why DO I do it?

Creativity is the expression of our soul through art.

This has been my motto for many years now. I believe it describes, in just a few words, my stand on creative professions such as mine, and conveys my passion towards what I do daily.

Having had the opportunity to travel and discover the world already as a kid, I have always been fascinated by how the identity and culture of different cities were conveyed through their cityscape. I appreciate how architecture evolves through time, deeply influenced by its context.

And, just as an artist uses brushes and paint to create art, architects employ their knowledge and creative skills to design beautiful buildings with purpose. The profound impact of architecture on our everyday lives inspired me to pursue a career in this field.
